press kit · v1.0.0

The browser in one small Island.

Blanc keeps search, tabs, named groups, page controls, and commands close—then leaves the page alone. 1.0 adds an optional vertical tab rail without creating a second browser interface.

Availability: macOS on Apple Silicon. Signed, notarized, and published only after the exact artifact and its SHA-256 manifest were verified.

Blanc's compact Island floating over a web page instead of a permanent tab strip and toolbar.
The resting Island keeps the active context visible without drawing a horizontal tab strip across the page.

why it exists

No conventional horizontal tab strip. No agent operating inside your session.

The Island is the product claim: one coherent surface for navigation, search, tab switching, named groups, page actions, and slash commands. A vertical rail is available when a persistent tab overview helps, while the Island remains the only place to address the web.

Built-in ad and tracker blocking, private tabs, end-to-end-encrypted Profile Sync, and the absence of a built-in AI assistant support that interaction model. They are not substitutes for it.

what to look at

The shortest path through the product thesis.

The Island. Command-L navigates, searches, switches among tabs, and reaches Favorites, history, and named groups; / runs a browser command. It is the only surface that addresses the web, and it is not a permanent strip drawn across the page.

Optional vertical tabs. View → Tab Layout → Vertical Tabs moves tabs to a resizable left rail without reloading the active page. The Island stays the address and command surface, so the rail adds an overview rather than a second interface.

Built-in blocking and private tabs. EasyList and EasyPrivacy filtering runs at the browser session layer rather than through an extension, and the Island's shield is a per-tab request count rather than a promise that every ad or tracker is gone. Private tabs use a separate in-memory session that is discarded when Blanc quits.
