moving on from arc

Looking for an Arc alternative? Here is what Blanc does.

In May 2025, The Browser Company wrote that it had stopped actively building new features for Arc, while continuing Chromium upgrades and security fixes. If you are deciding what to use next, this page sets out what Blanc offers today, and what it does not.

what you will find in blanc

A calm browser built around one small island.

Tabs down the side, if you want them.

Switch on optional vertical tabs for a persistent, resizable tab list. The island stays your address bar and command surface.

Sets of tabs for different work.

Named tab groups keep related tabs together and fold away when you want a quieter view. With Blanc Patron, Named Workspaces save a window’s tabs and groups so you can switch between sets in place.

Two pages side by side.

Glance keeps a reference tab beside the page you are using. Resize the split, swap the pages or close the reference.

Separate profiles.

Local profiles separate cookies, site data, Favorites, history and permissions, with no account required.

Ads blocked from the first launch.

Blanc Blocker is on by default. On supported builds you can choose full uBlock Origin for regular tabs instead.

Bring what you can, then start fresh.

Bookmarks from other browsers.

Blanc can import bookmarks into Favorites from Chromium-based browsers installed on your computer, such as Chrome, Edge and Brave. It does not import directly from Arc.

Free, and open source.

Blanc is free for macOS, Windows and Linux. Blanc’s own code is MIT-licensed and public on GitHub; its name, logos and third-party components keep their own terms.
